One can blame our religious and political leaders in that they have failed to recognize the nature of the beast and to enforce the policies that are known to work. But on the other, personal accountability is lacking. If you don’t see yourself as being at risk, you are not going to take the proper precautions to prevent yourself from getting infected. And if you are already infected why should you be the only one?
People in Ghana, and maybe elsewhere in Africa, are indifferent about life and death because they strongly believe in destiny. After all “owua biara da owuo”. We are all going to die some day or as I have often heard in pidgin English “all die be die”. So what if you are destined to die because of HIV/AIDS or destined to die at a young age? Man must die of something, right?
